Question to Ask When Choosing a Home
Health Agency.
The person receiving home health care
always has the right to choose the provider. Be sure you know
the answers to these important questions before you make your
choice.
- Is the agency Medicare approved?
- How long has the agency been serving the community?
- Does this agency give the services I need?
- How are emergencies handled?
- Is the agency's staff on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a
week?
- What will I be charged for services/supplies?
- Will Medicare or Medicaid pay for the items I need?
- How are my rights protected?
- Can my family and I help decide my plan of care?
- Does the agency teach family members about the type of care
being given?
- Who make sure that the home health care plan is being followed?
Does the supervisor make regular visits to the home?
- Who can I call if I have questions or complaints?
- What happens if a home health agency staff person does not
come when scheduled?
- Will the agency be in regular contact with my doctor?
- Is a free home health care consultation by a registered nurse
offered prior to start of service?
- Is a written job description provided for clients?
- Does the aide have reliable transportation?
- Does the agency provide a list of references for you to check
the level of client satisfaction?
- Are the employees bonded and insured?
- Are the employees licensed to perform specialized medical
care?
- Will the agency offer services to fit the individual's needs?
- What kind of training does the agency provide to employees?
- Are the aides experienced or certified
